Solona was born in Kirkwall, The Free Marches on 23 August, 9:10 Dragon to Revka Amell. She does not know who her father is. Her earliest memories are of a large, fancy house with a chandelier, and her mother’s smiling face. She also has vague recollections of her grandfather, Aristide Amell. She showed her first signs of magic at age six, and was taken away from everything she had ever known by the templars. Due to the prestige of the Amell family (Aristide was going to become Viscount until she was discovered to harbor magic), she was taken to Kinloch Hold instead of the Gallows in Kirkwall. It had been said that Kinloch Hold was more lenient toward mages, and her mother wanted her to grow up knowing more than the slave statues in the Gallows.
The element she defaults to is ice, with lightning coming in a close second. She is an absolutely abysmal healer, unable to heal anything more complex than a simple cut or slice without downing several lyrium potions. Any healing involving broken bones or ruptured organs is beyond her capabilities all together. She is an excellent battle mage, however, although she never gets to use her skills outside of the Circle where they would really be able to make a difference. Summoning a blizzard or a lightning storm comes as second nature.
Solona is a quick learner in all of her classes involving applying magic, with the exception of healing. She also enjoys learning, and strives to be the best in her studies. She is hard working, and strives to always finish everything she starts. She names herself one of the tower’s Libertarians, even though she has not made Enchanter yet, and believes that mages should be separate from the Chantry. She longs to feel sunlight and a breeze on her face, having not been outside for the last fourteen years, and has toyed with the idea of running away from the tower. A life on the run does not sound particularly appealing, however, and she has no interest in being in solitary for an extended period of time. If there was a way to escape the tower and never be caught, she would take it.
The Fereldan Circle of Magi is rather notorious for being a place where “everyone is kissing everyone,” according to Anders in DA2. Solona is no exception to the rule. She fraternizes with the other apprentices and mages in the tower, and even an enchanter or two. Having lived in the Circle for almost her entire life, she doesn’t know any better. If thrust into the outside world, she would be shocked to find that they would consider her brazen and loose.
